We are a vibrant, forward thinking learning community on the edge of Torquay. We are proud of our students and our identity of being non selective in a selective area.
We strive to improve the life chances and qualifications of all our students.
You are welcome to join us, if like us, you have high expectations and you want to commit to our goals.
As an 11-16 community college we are becoming increasingly successful in a number of fields and are on a significant upward trend for both achievement and attainment. We have been on an interesting journey throughout the last few years. This journey continues as from 1st September 2012.
From the above date, we will open as an Academy working with Torquay Boys’ Grammar School. There will be a new name, new uniform and plans to have Sixth Form provision. The opportunity for professional development and raising attainment are immense.
The Academy will support an enhanced Year 7 curriculum driven by IT, Literacy and numeracy and integrated through developments in the Opening Minds curriculum. There will be a new focus on IT to support learning and drive up standards.
Many of our students live in areas of high social deprivation and our priority remains to provide for them the very best 21st Century learning experience that we are able to. As a college we hold a strong vision for their futures by aspiring for excellence in teaching and learning underpinned by a breadth of opportunity and ensuring the most appropriate, relevant and personalized curriculum.
We are driving up standards and if you join us you will recognise a sense of purpose we share in securing the best for our students and their potential. This will impact not only on their lives but for the whole community.
Torquay Community College has a large, friendly and welcoming staff team both teaching and non teaching staff. We are committed to professional development and will help you develop your skills and experience further. There is considerable opportunity for leadership development at all levels. If you join us, be prepared to play an active part in school improvement and forward thinking!
Our young people are lively, growing in confidence and have a great deal to say for themselves! However, we see these attributes as positive characteristics to be built on. A fully involved school Council and Parent Council ensures students and parents are at the focal point of forward thinking to initiate improvement.
In order to fulfil our vision, we want to ensure that we all focus upon the quality of learning, that we are established as a centre for a community learning network and that what we offer is relevant, appropriate, inclusive and personalised. Students must have the opportunity to develop their own talents; to acquire skills and knowledge that will enable them to achieve economic wellbeing and to become responsible citizens.
We are determined to bring about a stepped change in the education of our young people, ensuring that they are fully equipped with lifelong learning skills, by inspiring them to achieve. We face many challenges in our community and have made significant strides to move our young people towards their potential. Improving aspiration and securing basic skills is absolutely paramount for the young people at Torquay Community College. Learning comes first at Torquay Community College, learning together to ensure individuals achieve their personal best, to be ‘the best that they can be’.
We offer a wide range of courses and activities which ensure that individual potential is realised and self-esteem is enhanced.
We set ourselves high expectations and our students are expected to do even better than their predecessors. Student attitudes to learning and achievement are tracked constantly with comprehensive intervention put in place to support this. Our staff are friendly and enthusiastic, hard working and totally committed to improvement and raising attainment at Torquay Community College.
